Russell Topp has come to Glasgow, and GSRC from the Washington DC area of the USA, where he lived, rowed, coxed, and coached for over 20 years. Most recently he was the Program Director and Head Women's coach at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia.
During his time as head coach the team broke
program records, and broke state records every year. His crews were the reigning state
champions for the last 5 years in a row, and placed 5th place at Scholastic Rowing
Association of America (SRAA) nationals in 2024 and 2025. His girls achieved 5th placed at the
Head of the Charles in 2024, and 6th in 2025, after an unfortunate crab kept them from medalling. He was voted 2025 Washington Post’s All-Met Coach of the Year, and
his crew was voted All-Met Boat of the Year.
He has experience coaching all ages from 8 to late 70s, and all ability levels from first day rowers to Olympians.
He hopes to continue to build on his prior success in Glasgow and expand access to high quality rowing and the water in the city.
